Archaeological monitoring was proposed for works relating to a water scheme in the centre of Maynooth town, between the R418 (Kilcock Road)/Moyglare Road Junction and the R408 (Meadowbrook Road) junction. The scheme is close to RMPs KD005-015, KD005-015001, KD005-015002, KD005-015003, KD005-015004, KD005-015005 and KD005-015006, centred on the medieval Maynooth Castle (KD005-015, National Monument No. 485), and KD005-016, St Mary’s Church of Ireland church, which incorporates parts of a manorial church associated with the castle. Monitoring did not locate archaeological material, however it should be noted that the southern part of the scheme, and in particular the area in the vicinity of KD005-015, was not monitored because the archaeological contractor was not notified that the works were underway.
