Previous testing (Licence No. 07E0898) at the proposed development site by Isabel Bennett in 2007 was negative. Five test excavation trenches were opened in areas not previously tested in 2007. The five cuttings were incrementally opened with a back-acting track machine using a 1.8m wide flat grading bucket under archaeological direction. Topsoil, throughout the site comprised deep (0.4-0.56m), good quality light-brown material with the occasional sandstone boulder here and there. The topsoil overlay bright sterile boulder clay with patches of orange oxidised material present here and there. Occasionally, narrow drains or cultivation furrows were noted. However, nothing of an archaeological nature was recorded.
