Archaeological testing of two short greenfield sections (A and B) of proposed grid connection cable between the Ballylongford Windfarm and existing ESB substation at Kilpaddoge in North Kerry was undertaken in July 2020. Thirty test trenches (T1-T30) in total were opened. T1-T10 were excavated at Carhoona townland (Section A) and T11-T30 at Kilpaddoge townland (Section B). The test trenches were, for the most part, 20m in length with 10m gaps between them. Topsoil was incrementally removed under archaeological supervision using a 14-ton track machine with a flat 1m-wide grading bucket. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in any of the test trenches and no artefacts were recovered.
