The site is situated within the zone of notification of Enclosure KE058-209. A linear north-south oriented test cutting was opened with a 6-ton track machine in the north-east limits of the site, nearest to the Enclosure. The cutting extended for c.67m and was on average 1.5m wide. The ground slopes to the south and comprises of wet peaty uneven ground covered in rough scrub of furze, willow, briar, fern, alder etc. Topsoil varied in depth between 0.15-0.25m. The topsoil overlay loose natural material with frequent cobbles. Natural material comprised a mix of sandy grey boulder clay that was heavily oxidised in places. A couple of linear agricultural furrows were exposed running slightly diagonally across the cutting. The flat-based shallow furrows are consistent with lazy-bed cultivation activity most likely from the 19th century. The southern limits of the cutting revealed that this area of the site had been turned in the past with redeposited material mixed with branches etc. had been mounded. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in the test cutting.
