A pre-planning test excavation was undertaken at Doocarrig Beg, Barraduff in advance of a proposed extension to an existing sand and gravel quarry. The nearest recorded monuments, a ringfort (KE068-029), a stone row (KE068-110) and a standing stone row (KE068-111), are located over 1km from the quarry.
Fourteen test trenches were excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay and no features or finds of archaeological merit were uncovered. A field boundary, indicated on the 1st and 2nd editions of OS map, was exposed in Trench 6 close to the south-east edge of the quarry face.
