Archaeological monitoring was carried out on the second phase of conservation works at The Walks, Loughrea townland, Loughrea, Co. Galway, on 14 August, 2020, under an extension to Ministerial Consent C000865. The lining of the north face of ‘the watercourse’, which comprised poorly-preserved walling of drystone construction along the line of the medieval fortifications, was taken down by mechanical means to the water level. A 0.7m-wide area to the rear of the lining was reduced by c. 1.35m in average depth. There were only modern finds discovered in the excavated soil but two architectural fragments (Find No.'s E005094:2 and :3) were retrieved from the rubble of the stone lining. No other finds or features were discovered during the excavation of topsoil from the rear of the stone facing. The conservation works progressed to rebuild the stone lining.
