The mechanical excavation of four trenches at the site of a proposed office development did not result in the discovery of heretofore unknown or unrecorded archaeological features. Two of the trenches showed evidence of modern disturbance and were excavated to undisturbed natural. The third trench could not be fully excavated due to the presence of a cluster of modern service pipes at a depth of 1m below current ground level and the fourth trench was excavated for a depth of 700mm, when a cobbled surface of probable 19th-century date was uncovered and retained in situ.
