Archaeological monitoring of geotechnical site investigations and pre-development test trenching revealed no features and or finds of archaeological significance. The stratigraphy encountered revealed garden soil ranging in depth from 0.45m to 0.7m, overlying the natural bedrock and orange/brown gritty clay. The level of natural bedrock varied and it was apparent that material had been brought in to create a level garden design. In the north part of the site, removal of the garden soil to a depth of 0.7m revealed building rubble. The rubble was comprised of stones with mortar, red brick, slate and 19th-century pottery fragments. It measured 0.5-0.6m in depth and overlay the natural and it is probable that it was deposited create a level garden. The building rubble may be the remains of the structures indicated on the 1818 plan. These buildings are not marked on the OSI 1838 6-inch map and the garden is.
