A programme of archaeological testing was conducted on the site of a proposed housing development at Tír an Bhuí (Tirboy), Tuam, County Galway. A total of eight trenches were proposed for this site. Overall, the site was heavily disturbed, possibly during the construction of the surrounding housing estate. It appears that the northern portion of the site was the most affected, filled and levelled with construction refuse. Deep layers of rubble, redeposited clay and patches of hardstanding were identified beneath the topsoil. The southern portion of the site showed less disturbance with occasional traces of root activity. Trial pits were identified within several trenches.
No archaeological features or artefacts were identified within the trenches during this investigation.
