In Phase One of this testing 20 relatively small trenches were opened inside and outside of the protected structure known as Comerford House which incorporates a stretch of the town wall at Galway. Archaeological deposits (including a flag floor, stone sets/cobbles and black organic layers) were noted during the testing. It is anticipated that there will be a Phase Two of this testing project presently. The initial results of Phase One will inform the design of the proposed structure, which is an extension to Galway City Museum.
