Archaeological monitoring of the Main Contracts Works for the New Children’s Hospital was undertaken intermittently between January 2020 through to March 2020; the site was then closed for the remaining year, due to Covid-19. The monitoring works were carried out within Area 8, and adjacent to Areas 3 and 9. The zones monitored were made up of 19th-, 20th- and 21st-century fills, and dumped materials, including, but not limited to, trass, boulder clay, and various grades of gravel modern fills. The original upper levels of the earlier/previous landscape had in many zones been dug/scarped off, overlain with the above identified materials, or combinations of the above. No archaeological features or objects were encountered within the monitored areas or adjacent zones (Area 8, adjacent Area 3 and 9).
