Archaeological monitoring was undertaken during the construction of a sewerage system at Blanchardstown, parallel to and on the north side of the N3 and broadly following the line of the River Tolka, from north-west to south-east. The project included the construction of a pumping station and storage tanks, as well as the installation of 3.2km of sewer pipe, laid by horizontal directional drilling. Monitoring was concentrated on topsoil stripping in the area of the tanks and pumping station at the south-east of the scheme, in the locations of the shafts to be excavated for the tunnel boring machine and for a haul road along the scheme. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were encountered.
