Test trenching was undertaken on the site of a proposed development, which comprised a landscaped memorial park of c. 10ha which will be developed over the former Portmarnock raceway.
The part of the c.10ha site which was archaeologically tested was located in the south-west corner of the site, as this specific area was prescribed in the request for additional information made by the planning authority, in this case Fingal County Council, which sought to further archaeologically asses the area around St Marnock’s church and grounds.
No archaeology was identified, however extensive building up of the underlying substrates around the church boundary was noted.
