Archaeological monitoring of the groundworks for the construction of a Data Centre was undertaken on 20 July-5 October 2020. This took place intermittently in accordance with the construction schedule and was in fulfilment of a condition of a grant of planning permission. The brownfield site had previously been entirely subjected to earlier development as the former location of an industrial company. The principal groundworks impacting the site comprised the excavation through the extant crushed stone surface of building pads and then ground reductions for landscaping, services and an access road encircling the building. No surviving original topsoil was encountered. The exposed subsoil comprised a stoney grey and brown boulder clay. Some post-medieval white glazed and red earthenware pottery sherds were identified but not retained. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the course of the works.
