Test trenching was carried out between 4-6 November 2020 at the site of a proposed development on lands at UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4. The site occupies an area of roughly 7.56 hectares.
Test trenching comprised 18 trenches, equating to 383 linear metres. Test excavation across the site was constrained by existing hard and soft landscaping, road and pathways, buried service trenches and car parks etc. It is likely that any archaeological remains which may exist beneath the existing ground surface would have already been heavily disturbed or destroyed during previous landscaping and construction works not associated with the current development.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the excavation.
