Archaeological test trenching was carried out on a site at Rush Demesne, Rush, Co. Dublin from 19-24 February 2020 using a 14-tonne tracked excavator. A total of 8 test trenches and a small compound area were excavated/stripped across the footprint of the proposed development. Each trench measured 1.8m in width and in total 1225m of linear trenches were excavated. Due to the presence of on-site spoil heap, it was not possible to excavate Trenches 1, 2 or 5 at their proposed locations. The trenches revealed the brown clay topsoil and sod extended to a depth of c. 0.26–0.31m, overlying the orange natural clay.

A rectangular area measuring 40m in length by 21m was also stripped of sod and topsoil in order to establish a site compound. The sod and topsoil measured 0.27m in depth and lay directly above the orange natural clay.

No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered.
