A BH 3 archaeological evaluation (AE/19/162E) was undertaken in November 2019 at the request of HED: HM as archaeological material had been found in a development next to the site.
The BH3 evaluation consisted of mechanically excavated test trenches across the footprint of the site. Some potential archaeological features were identified, and it was decided that these would be left unexcavated until planning approval had been obtained for the development and the archaeology would be addressed through the archaeological conditions on the planning approval.
The planning application was approved, and archaeological conditions were placed on the approval requiring an archaeological programme of works to be undertaken.
A small pit and a shallow linear ditch were excavated. Both were dated to the post-medieval period. No other material of an archaeological nature was uncovered.
