The site is a large residential development to be constructed in several phases over a ten-year period.
This licence covers the archaeological testing within Phases 1 and 2 and two topsoil strip areas within parts of Phases 3. A large bivallate rath (DOW 003:001) is present within the centre of the site.
The test trenching within Phases 1 and 2 was carried out between 5–19 August 2019. On 24 October 2019 an area measuring approximately 10m by 20m was fully topsoil stripped to allow provision for an NIE substation (within the Phase 3 area of the development). On 22–23 June 2020 a topsoil strip measuring 7m wide by 275m long was excavated along the eastern boundary of the site in order to accommodate a storm drain (within the Phase 3 area of the development). No archaeological material was uncovered in any of the excavated trenches or topsoil strip areas.
