The site is a large residential development to be constructed in several phases over a ten-year period.
This licence covers the archaeological testing within Phases 1 and 2 and two topsoil strip areas within parts of Phases 3. A large bivallate rath (DOW 003:001) is present within the centre of the site.
The test trenching within Phases 1 and 2 was carried out between 5-19 August 2019. On 24 October 2019 an area measuring approximately 10m by 20m was fully topsoil stripped to allow provision for an NIE substation (within the Phase 3 area of the development). On 22-23 June 2020 a topsoil strip measuring 7m wide by 275m long was excavated along the eastern boundary of the site in order to accommodate a storm drain (within the Phase 3 area of the development). No archaeological material was uncovered in any of the excavated trenches or topsoil strip areas.
