Pre-development test trenching was undertaken at the site of a proposed agricultural building in Malinmore, Co. Donegal. The proposed development is in the vicinity of, and within, the zone of archaeological notification of DG089-007002 - Cairn and DG089-007001 - Standing Stone. In the adjacent field to the east of the site are several National Monuments including seven megalithic tombs (National Monument no. 139 (4) in state care), DG089-008 Megalithic tomb - portal tomb, DG089-008001 - Megalithic tomb - portal tomb, DG089-008002 - Megalithic tomb - portal tomb, DG089-008003 - Megalithic tomb - portal tomb, DG089-008004 - Megalithic tomb - portal tomb, DG089-008-005- Megalithic tomb - portal tomb.
Four parallel trenches at 5m intervals were mechanically excavated using a graded bucket 1m wide on the footprint of the proposed agricultural building, driveway, and access point. The total area excavated comprised 85m of trench. No archaeological material was identified within the proposed development area during test trenching.
