It was proposed to construct a new domestic dwelling, garage, access and associated services on a site 70m south of 87 Tobermore Road, Desertmartin.
There was one known site of archaeological interest in the near vicinity, the remains of a rath, LDY041:003, located on higher ground some 70m to the east of the proposal. This site would not be directly affected by the proposal and visual impacts from the development are considered to be negligible. However it was possible that some archaeological deposits associated with the rath may have survived on the proposed site. In addition, as the ground slopes quite steeply down to the west into an area of wet and marshy ground, it was possible that archaeology associated with Bronze Age burnt mounds could be uncovered along these margins.
Five test trenches were investigated on 20 January 2020, to cover the entire footprint of the development.
Nothing of archaeological interest was noted in any of the trenches
