Archaeological Monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken between 31 August and 10 September 2020. The remnants of a north-north-west/south-south-east orientated field boundary, as depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey (1842) was recorded, as were parallel plough furrows.

Previous Geophysical Survey was carried out by Joanna Leigh in July 2015 (15R0063), which identified three areas of archaeological potential. Test trenching was subsequently carried out by Dermot Nelis in September 2015 (under license 15E0363), across the whole of the available development site area. Nine trenches were excavated, three of which targeted the Geophysical anomalies, but there was no subsurface trace of the anomalies detected.

Topsoil stripping showed that the area had been cleared of scrub and ploughed sometime in the recent past, but that it was almost always either grazing land or under tillage. Bands and pockets of more stony subsoil close to bedrock may account for some of the geophysical anomalies noted in the 2015 survey.

Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
