Monitoring was carried out during the excavation of ground investigation trial pits in several locations across the Limerick/Cork border in advance of the proposed Cork Line Level Crossing Project, which would see railway crossings upgraded or replaced. The works were in various locations between ITM 553311 609784 and 557538 624479
A possible ditch was encountered in a trial pit in Creggane townland, Co. Limerick (ITM 553225 609817). The ditch was seen to be approximately 1m wide and oriented from south-east to north-west. The fill was greyish-brown silt. To avoid impacting the potential feature the pit was not excavated beyond the top of the pit and an alternative trial pit was excavated nearby instead. The possible ditch therefore remains preserved in situ. The other pits revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
