A programme of pre-development archaeological testing was undertaken in advance of constructing an additional extension to the existing facility in Anngrove, Carrigtohill. This part of Cork harbour is part of a landscape which has attracted human settlement from early prehistoric times, and continuity of settlement is illustrated by numerous monuments from the medieval and post-medieval periods.
A total of ten trenches were excavated to the surface of the natural ground and the only features of anthropogenic origin were two stone-filled modern drains. Monitoring of all topsoil removal during the initial groundworks phase of the development revealed nothing of archaeological importance.
