Archaeological testing of the site of a proposed social housing development at Boheraroan, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, found no archaeological features or deposits. It was clear that the site has been subject to infilling in recent years with sterile material imported to raise the ground level by over 1m and up to 2.9m. Peat was seen beneath the imported fill peat at a depth of 1.1m below the modern ground surface in the west, deepening to 2.9m below the modern surface in the south-east, indicating that this was formerly a low-lying wet field, sloping down to the south-east.
