An archaeological assessment was carried out on behalf of Slaney Rovers FC as part of a Grant of Planning Permission by Carlow County Council for a sports development project in Rathvilly, County Carlow. The proposed development will consist an all-weather pitch and ancillary works within the existing grounds of Slaney Rovers.
An excavator fitted with a flat grading bucket was used to excavate 4 test trenches across the playing field area. Each trench measured 1-1.5m x 25m. The excavation of the trenches continued until natural and/or archaeological deposits was reached. No features of archaeological interest were found.
