Archaeological testing was undertaken over a four-day period between 12 to 15 October 2020. All 18 trenches were excavated as proposed in the Programme of Works, with the exception of Trench 1, which was investigated by way of four 2m-long test pits. The removal of the topsoil in the area of Trench 1 and the south-eastern portion of Trench 2 revealed an underlying deposit of landfill. The proposed compound at the location of Trench 1 is no longer part of the development proposals. The formation level of the access road through this area will not require excavation into this underlying deposit, which will be left in situ. All test trenches were reinstated after completion of the evaluation.
Nothing of archaeological significance was identified in any of the trenches and no artefacts were found during a scan of the topsoil from the trenches.
