The site is located c. 400m north of Ashford village, Co. Wicklow in Ballinahinch townland and comprises two fields currently set out in rough pasture of roughly 5 hectares. The western margin of both fields is not suitable for test excavation. Within the southern field, there is a large spoil heap from recent housing development to the west. In the northern field, there are overhead cables and more spoil dumped at the west. The northern field slopes gently to the south and the southern field is relatively flat. Thirteen test trenches were opened by a 16t mechanical excavator fitted with a 2m wide ditching bucket. The trenches were laid out to cover the entire area of the two fields. Subsoil consisted of loose yellowish brown sands and gravels. Topsoil consisted of a rich sandy loam. No archaeological features were discovered.
