The site at Church Road, Delgany is located within an area of rich archaeological potential primarily dating from the early medieval period with the graveyard at Delgany 130m to the west of the site. Furthermore, a Viking battle is documented in the Annals of the Four Masters in Delgany and its location is speculated to have been somewhere along the valley of the Three Trouts Stream. A hoard of ninth-century gold finds was found along the Glen Road which ends approximately 300m west of the development site. Given the possibility for artefact retrieval metal detecting of the topsoil from the test trenches was carried out under licence 19R0048, however no finds of archaeological significance were retrieved.
No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the test trenches. The test trenching confirmed that the site is for the most part completely disturbed from recent construction activities.
