Testing was carried out at the pre-planning stage on the footprint of a proposed development at Charlesland, Co. Wicklow.
Five trenches were excavated, three revealed a number of archaeological features.
- Trench 2 contained a sub-oval pit with grey clay and burnt stone.
- Trench 3 contained a burnt mound spread of c.8m x 6m, truncated by modern drainage, as well as a large sub-oval pit and a small sub-circular pit, spread out within the 110m long trench.
- Trench 4 contained a spread of grey silty clay and a sub-oval pit filled with dark grey silty clay.
These features were excavated under the same licence in June 2019.
