An application to construct a single dwelling house with associated siteworks in Kellystown townland c.3.5km north-east of Adamstown led to a request for an archaeological impact assessment to include a test excavation to be carried out. The development site is located within the vicinity of a cist burial (WX031-063) and a medieval moated site (WX031-066).
Seven test trenches were placed in those areas of the site where maximum ground disturbance will occur. These were excavated to the surface of the natural clay and no features or finds of archaeological merit were uncovered in any of the excavated areas. The exposure of cultivation furrows in all of the trenches indicated that the field had been used extensively for tillage and potato growing up to recent times.
