The site was located at The Bank Building, Meagher Street, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. This building is a Protected Structure (RPS No. 26) and listed on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (Reg. No. 22821017). It consists of a two-storey over basement building fronting on to Meagher Street, with an open yard to rear. The monitoring was carried out in this yard, immediately behind the former bank building. The site is located within the zone of notification for the town of Dungarvan (WA031-040) and within the area of archaeological potential as defined in the Dungarvan Town Council Plan 2012–2018.

Archaeological monitoring was carried out of all groundworks associated with the site preparation work. This included the removal of the foundations of a former, later extension to the rear of the building, and the excavation of the footprint of a new larger extension.

Works involved the breaking up of the foundations of the former extension, and removal of same. Once this was complete, the footprint of the new larger extension was then excavated, to a depth of c. 1.2m below present ground level. The stratigraphy consisted of a substantial disturbed/modern layer containing rubble overlying sterile clay. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed.
