Monitoring was undertaken at Crossbridge Street, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford in January 2019 to fulfil condition 9 of a grant of planning (18/519) from Waterford City and County Council. The development site is located on the western side of Crossbridge Street within the area of the medieval town of Dungarvan (WA031-040). The monitoring of ground disturbance work was associated with the construction of a 2-storey extension to the rear (west) of the existing office building – Moore Financial Consultants Ltd. Entry to the site is via an entrance which provides access to the rear of the existing building on the southern side. Formerly the yard was used by the Post Office when it used to be located on the north-east side of Grattan Square.
The concrete was removed from the area of the footprint of the extension which measured approx. 4m north-south by 7m. Three modern layers were recorded below the concrete. The ground was reduced by an approx. depth of 1m.
No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in any of the layers in the footprint of the foundations of the extension to the west of Moore Financial Consultants Ltd. at Crossbridge Street, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.
