The site at Carland Road is located in the grounds of South Tyrone hospital, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone. The hospital was built over a 19th-century Union workhouse, opened in 1842 accommodating up to 800 people: it was demolished in 1978. A total of five trenches were excavated across an area of lawn adjacent to a small carpark as part of a wider investigation regarding the precise location of the workhouse graveyard. A review of the historic cartographic resource also showed an error in projection meaning the graveyard was located further beneath current hospital buildings. Modern building debris and evidence of significant landscaping were uncovered. The five trenches revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
