A test excavation was undertaken as a request for further information by Tipperary County Council following an application to construct a dwelling house, shed and garage in St. Patricksrock townland to the north-west of Cashel town. The proposed development is located c. 2km north-west of Hore Abbey (TS061-024, NM 127) and 800m west of the Rock of Cashel (TS061-025:001-138, NM 128).

In all, six trenches were excavated; two (T1 & T2) along the route of the proposed driveway, three (T3– T5) across the long axes of the proposed buildings and a single trench (T6) at the location of the septic tank. The topsoil varied from 0.46-0.5m and a north-south ridge of bedrock was exposed at the west side of Trench 1 close to the public road. Upslope, away from the road, the underlying subsoil consisted of more mixed gravel deposits. No features or finds of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the tested areas.
