2019:874 - CARROWNEDEN (Leyny By.), Sligo

Archaeological monitoring was carried out in advance of proposed development within a farmyard complex of 18/19th-century buildings consisting of a two-storey farmhouse, several outbuildings, a walled garden and a curving terrace feature, SL016-012 , incorporating steps which has an earthen sloping bank. This feature was originally classified as a possible enclosure but is more recently described as a designed landscape feature which on site inspection appears to be the most likely interpretation.

The excavation of foundations for new dwelling was archaeologically monitored as was excavation for access roads and services around the dwelling house.  No evidence for any archaeological finds, features or deposits were discovered during the course of archaeological monitoring.
