Archaeological monitoring of the demolition of disused farm buildings and reinstatement to grassland was carried out at Rathcroghan, Toberrory, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon. The site is located within the core area of the Rathcroghan archaeological complex which is a National Monument in State Care No. 294 (RO022-042---, -056---, -057---). Monitoring was carried out in association with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht under Ministerial Consent C000864 in August 2019.
The work consisted of monitoring topsoil removal and groundworks associated with the demolition and removal of disused farm buildings, followed by the removal of concrete aprons about the buildings. Work involved levelling the ground with introduced topsoil in order to repair the landscape to grassland. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered. The work is now complete.
