Monitoring of groundworks for an access road and commercial development took place on 11-12 July 2019. Portions of the development footprint are in the Zone of Notification for the cluster of sites associated with Colp West Church, graveyard and nearby medieval settlement. The sod and topsoil was removed by a 20-tonne tracked excavator fitted with a toothless grading bucket to subsoil levels. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during this monitoring phase. It is recommended that the remainder of the groundworks be monitored when they recommence.
