Test trenching was undertaken in the townland of Tawnaghmore, Killala, County Mayo. No features and/or finds of archaeological significance were encountered in any of the trenches excavated. Traces of a linear cut encountered in Trenches Q, R and S are filled with modern hardcore stone and are likely to represent drainage features or a modern service trench. The stratigraphy encountered throughout the area tested indicate natural layers below topsoil with a thin layer of topsoil overlying fragmented rock at the northern end of the trench.
