The site is situated in the townland of Barnalyra in east Co. Mayo, south-west of Charlestown, and to the south of the N5 road. In 2017 the developer received planning permission for development of an industrial facility at Stripe/Barnalyra/Barnacahoge and Carn. Licensed monitoring of soil stripping was a condition of planning.

The development consisted of a new site entrance in a small east-sloping pasture field 0.1 hectares in area. Monitoring took place on 15 October 2019. Work was carried out by two tracked excavators with ditching buckets that stripped and loaded the topsoil into two dumper trucks for haulage elsewhere on site. The topsoil is brown-coloured coarse loamy drift with siliceous stones that ranged from c.0.3m in depth at the top of the slope to c.1m at the base. This overlay a drift with siliceous stones that ranged in colour from light brown to light grey.

No archaeological features or artifacts were identified in the course of the monitoring.
