The proposed development at Sallagher, Ross, Castlebar will consist of a single dwelling house with garage, septic tank, driveway, landscaping and ancillary works.
The desk-based assessment found that the proposed house is planned to be built within the constraints area of a redundant monument MA 069 – 001, an Ogham Stone. Based on these findings a programme of pre-development testing was undertaken.
Topsoil varied from 0.1–0.32m deep. The natural was mainly composed of a mid-brown to orange gravel material. There were also traces of some natural iron panning with grey glacial seams. No artefacts or environmental evidence were revealed during the test trenching exercise. Nothing of archaeological significance will be impacted upon by the proposed development.
