Archaeological testing took place of the site of a proposed residential dwelling at Tullyallen, Slane Road, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The assessment was carried out on behalf of Gavin and Sinead Daly in fulfilment of condition 6 within a grant of permission from Louth County Council (Planning reference 18/763). The site of the proposed development lies approximately 0.3km north of LH020-025006, classified as a Ford. It is located within an historical landscape associated with the Battle of the Boyne, that is also rich in both prehistorical and medieval remains. The metal detection survey and testing were carried out by Deirdre Murphy and Ian Russell of Archaeological Consultancy Services Unit (ACSU) on 12 August 2019. As the site is within the area of the Battle of the Boyne a metal detection survey was undertaken prior to the excavation of test trenches within the footprint of the development. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified, and no finds were recovered. It is therefore recommended that the proposed development be allowed to proceed as planned.
