Monitoring was carried out during the Shannon Road Link Main Scheme on Shannon Street in Mountrath, south of its junction with Shannon Road. The monitored works were immediately south of the bounds of LA017-033 ---- (Historic Town). The northern part of the water pipe was laid in an open trench, the excavation of which was monitored, whilst the southern part of the scheme was drilled and therefore not monitored. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded, although a small area of earlier cobbled road surface was identified in one location.
