Archaeological test trenching, monitoring and excavation were carried out in advance of the redevelopment of the Brewhouse Building, Kilkenny City. The works took place intermittently between March 2017 and December 2019.
Most of the works were involved in the investigation of proposed new underground services locations in and around the redeveloped Brewhouse Building.
Archaeology dating to the medieval and post-medieval period was identified. The medieval archaeology comprised soil deposits and pottery sherds. The post-medieval archaeology comprised stone walls, clay pipes and pottery sherds. Localised excavations were carried out in accordance with instructions of the National Monuments Service. Post-excavation analysis is ongoing.
