The site is located within the curtilage of a recorded monument, a 17th-century house site (KK019-102) and a protected structure, Kilcreen Lodge (RPS Ref. B117). The proposed development entails site works and the provision of services and infrastructure to accommodate the future development of nine detached dwellings on a c. 2.02ha woodland site to the immediate south-west of Kilcreen Lodge (Planning Ref. 18856).

To address the archaeological potential of the proposed development site, test trenches were excavated across the nine proposed residential sites.

One sub-surface feature, a rectangular concrete footing, was partially exposed in the east end of Test Trench 7, in residential plot No. 8. This is the likely remains of a small, rectangular structure depicted on the revised 25″ edition Ordnance Survey map, 1900.

No structural remains were exposed in Test Trench 8, in residential plot No. 9. Nonetheless, sub-surface remains associated with 19th-century buildings contemporary with the remains exposed in Test Trench 7 may be present in residential plot No. 9.

No other features or material of archaeological significance was identified as a result of the programme of test excavation. No physical expression of the townland and parish boundary between Kilcreen, civil parish of St. Canice’s and Kilcreen, civil parish of St. Patrick’s was encountered in either Test Trench 7 or 8.
