Pre-planning test trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed residential development at Elsmore (Jigginstown Phase 2), in the townland of Naas West, Co. Kildare. It follows a previous geophysical survey report carried out by Lynda McCormack of IAC Ltd in January 2019, under licence 18R0246.
Testing was carried out over two days from 15 May 2019 using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat grading bucket. The trenches targeted geophysical anomalies and open space to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site. Fifteen trenches were excavated across two areas, Area 1 and Area 2, totalling 760.6 linear metres. Testing revealed no areas of archaeological potential. Agricultural features including post-medieval field boundaries and furrows were noted.
