Stage (iii) Excavation was carried out between 5 and 10 June 2019 at the site of Coolnaleen Lower 3 in advance of construction of the N69 Listowel Bypass Scheme, Co. Kerry. The work was carried out under Ministerial Direction number A076 and Registration numbers E005060 (Excavation) and R000507 (Metal Detection), on behalf of Kerry County Council. The site was discovered in the south of the scheme in the townland of Coolnaleen Lower during advance Stage (i) Test Excavations undertaken in 2018 by AMS.

The site consisted of two pits, one of which contained burnt bone, as well as one agricultural furrow. The pit containing burnt bone was a possible cremation pit and may date to the Bronze Age. The possible cremation pit measured 0.4m by 0.37m by 0.16m in depth. The second pit measured 0.42m by 0.38m by 0.08m in depth and contained a single fill with occasional charcoal flecks. The agricultural furrow was located 2m east of the possible cremation pit and measured 0.46m in width by 0.06m in depth.

Post-excavation analysis is ongoing and it is hoped that specialist reports including radiocarbon dating and osteoarchaeological analysis, and comparative research, will further enhance our understanding of the site.
