Stage (iii) Excavation was carried out at the site of Curraghatoosane 1 in advance of construction of the N69 Listowel Bypass Scheme, Co. Kerry. The work was carried out between 9 and 29 July 2019 on behalf of Kerry County Council. The site was discovered in the north-east of the scheme in the townland of Curraghatoosane during advance Stage (i) Test Excavations undertaken in 2018 by AMS.

The site of Curraghatoosane 1 consisted of a vernacular dwelling with the remains of two outbuildings and a number of field drains; it was occupied from c. 1840 to 1950. The building was sub-rectangular in plan and had overall external dimensions of 5.3–6m north–south by 12.25m. A hearth wall divided off the eastern third of the building creating an eastern room (4.55m by 4.3m east–west internally) and a larger western room, which served as the kitchen (6.22m by 4.45m east–west internally). The hearth was located in the east wall of the kitchen and was defined by a large cut-limestone flag. A single phase of wall construction was discerned, comprising the intermittent remains of a stone wall footing. This was interpreted as a foundation for mud walls. The site was developed throughout its occupation with the addition of cobbled drains, outbuildings and finally, concrete floors.
