Testing was undertaken in January 2019 with regard to a planning application to construct a Battery Storage Compound at a 2.14ha site in the townland of Shronebeirne, Duagh, c.8.0km east-south-east of Listowel in North Kerry. The site is situated c.40m north of the zone of notification of KE011-042001, classified as a ring-barrow, within which is a standing stone, KE011-042002.
A series of twenty-one 1.8m wide test trenches (T1-T21), with a total meterage of c.705m, were opened across the footprint of the Battery Storage Compound, proposed grid connection route and proposed access roadway. Topsoil was very dark brown rich soil ranging from approx. 0.15m to 0.4m in depth. It overlay a combination of orange and grey/green compacted clay natural. No archaeological features, deposits or finds were recorded during testing.
