Testing was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct a Battery Storage Compound near Ballynahulla Substation, Ballydesmond, Co. Kerry. A series of twelve 1.8m wide test trenches (T1-T12), extending for a total of c.870m, was opened on two fields across the footprint of the proposed battery. Topsoil was very similar in each trench and generally consisted of black to dark grey material with an average depth 0.3-0.4m. Subsoil consisted of grey and orange clay. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted during testing.
