Monitoring of a housing development was carried out at Ballybaan Beg townland, Monivea Road, Galway City. Monitoring of the works began in July 2018, initially carried out by Anne Carey. The licence was then transferred to the author and works were monitored on a phased basis. The project intermittently required archaeological monitoring as construction progressed in a staged manner. Groundworks involved open trenching to facilitate foundations for individual dwelling houses, associated services and roads. The site had experienced significant disturbance in the past with much of the area, until recently, having had greenhouses upon it. Excavations exposed a mix of infills over a mid-brown sandy silty clay and natural clay.
Monitoring was concluded in mid-June 2019. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the course of monitoring.
